Apply for a Higher Education Scholarship

HFLS has begun processing 2026 UJA Scholarship awards for students who completed the award-acceptance process. All scholarship disbursements are expected to be sent to recipients’ schools by August 24, 2026.

Most payments will be issued by wire transfer. However, some schools require payment by check, which may result in additional delivery and processing time.

Disbursement Process

HFLS sends each payment to the school’s Office of the Bursar, along with documentation identifying:

• The scholarship recipients
• Each recipient’s student identification number
• The campus, if applicable
• The amount awarded
• The terms governing the scholarship

Schools are asked to post the awards to students’ accounts as soon as they confirm receipt of the funds. Although HFLS will send all payments within the stated period, each school determines how quickly it posts an award to a student’s account.

Scholarship Terms

The following conditions apply to the HFLS/UJA Scholarship:

1. The scholarship is for educational purposes and is not limited to tuition and fees.
2. The award is for the 2026–2027 academic year and may be used, in whole or in part, during either semester or the 2027 summer session.
3. Students who have already paid their bills in part or in full may request a refund from their school for any unused portion of the scholarship balance.
4. If a student withdraws from classes before the school’s withdrawal deadline, any refund due to the student—up to the amount of the scholarship received—must be returned to the Hebrew Free Loan Society.
